Tsavo West is half of one of the biggest parks in Africa; its mosaic of woodlands, scrub and grassland supports a great variety of wildlife including all the ‘Big 5’, baboons, rock hyrax, mongoose, hartebeest, lesser and greater kudu, cheetah, amongst other fascinating species. Safari in this area could be very rigorous while hiking gives you a good opportunity to admire the little wildlife of Kenyan bush. The occurrence of crystalline Mzima Springs is also in this area – rich with hippo and Nile crocodile. Drink water that is fresh from the spring and this is considered as one of the purest types of water to take.
The Chyulu Hills are un-spoilt jigsaw puzzle of dense forests, arid savannahs and volcanic crags stretching beyond the horizon to Mt Kilimanjaro on a clear day. Even spotting a leopard or a pride of lions is a fulfilling experience because the game is much less easily found in this reserve. People seldom visit this park also; hence your association with land is very personal.
Shetani lava flow: shetani is the Kiswahili word for ‘Devil’. It is said that the locals thought it was the devil himself coming out of the earth when this event had happened some two hundred years ago. Look at this – enjoy this special and spectacular view!
